The Marin County Board of Supervisors has declared April 2002 as Waste-Free Month. This annual event encourages residents to become aware of their daily impact on the environment and take specific steps to reduce waste. This is our seventh year to focus on waste-reduction in celebration of Earth Day. This year, we are promoting three month-long campaigns:
- Reduce Business Junk Mail -- Encourages Marin County organizations to start taking specific steps during the month of April to reduce the amount of unwanted mail they receive in their mailrooms.
- No More Junk Mail -- Encourages Marin County residents to start taking specific steps during the month of April to reduce the amount of unwanted mail they receive in their homes.
- Pack a Waste-Free Lunch -- Encourages Marin County residents to pack a waste-free lunch as often as possible during the month of April. We ask students and citizens to pack a lunch free of waste such as excess food, plastic wrap, plastic utensils, paper bags, foil, or Styrofoam.
We would love your help with promoting Waste-Free Month! Here are some ideas:
- Download and print our flyers for posting on public bulletin boards or at your work
- Encourage your co-workers, family, and friends to participate
- Reprint the information in any newsletters your organization produces
We would love to hear from you if you plan to participate! Please e-mail to communitydevelopment@MarinEFM.org.

The Environmental Forum of Marin has prepared Waste-Free Month flyers in Adobe Acrobat format.
Most newer computers come with Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. If the above download doesn't work, download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.
