HOW TO START AN ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM

Since the inception of the Environmental Forum of Marin (EFM) in 1972, people throughout the country have heard about its training program’s remarkable effectiveness in educating the public to become informed environmental advocates. Although the Environmental Forum of Marin was developed to respond to unique challenges facing the citizens of Marin County in California, we have had many requests for help in developing similar forums in other areas.

To respond to these requests we have developed a package of information that will be made available to other people, organizations, and/or groups wishing to start a similar program in their region. These materials consist of a booklet entitled “Inspiring Environmental Advocacy” and supporting materials. The booklet describes our program, its successes, and how it came into being. The supporting materials consist primarily of detailed schedules and guides from one of our training programs.

The Environmental Forum of Marin is willing to provide direct personal support to any group to the extent an all-volunteer organization can. It is quite possible that potential local funding sources in your area would be interested in supporting a group intending to replicate a program that can demonstrate the successes that the Environmental Forum of Marin has been achieving for more than three decades.

Two new programs have programs have started in the San Francisco Bay Area as a result of our support:
