Our Mission
Environmental Forum of Marin (EFM) Promotes a
Sustainable World through Environmental Education
The Environmental Forum of Marin is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the environment by educating its Members and the Marin citizenry about environmental issues. In furtherance of this purpose, the goal of EFM is to conduct training programs on environmental issues, provide continuing education for its Members and the public, and influence decision-making.

About Us
The Environmental Forum of Marin is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the quality of our environment through education. Established in 1972, EFM is a leader in environmental education and public service.
Our intensive Sustainable Earth Forum (previously named Traditional Training Program) is a fall semester program focusing on ecology, human impacts on the environment, resource management, and citizen and community action. It consists of one-day-a-week classes and field trips throughout Marin County. More than 100 people contribute their services to provide this professional and respected environmental education program.
The first Sustainable Communities Seminar (previously named Workshop Series, "Toward a Sustainable Marin") began in January 2005 as a series of six Saturday morning workshops, providing a forum to explore the main aspects of sustainablity and how sustainable practices can be incorporated at the city, county and municipal levels.
Graduation from the Sustainable Earth Forum qualifies individuals for full EFM membership; Graduation from the Sustainable Communities Seminar qualifies individuals for associate EFM membership. Graduates of our training programs have gone on to serve environmental causes in both public and private sectors, in capacities such as directors of conservation organizations, representatives on city, county and regional boards and commissions, and elected officials holding local and national public office.
The Environmental Forum of Marin web site was developed with two audiences in mind. Members of the Forum and those in the current training program can find timely information about the Forum's activities, including the training schedule and recent accomplishments of our committees. In addition, it is hoped those unfamiliar with the Forum who are looking for an opportunity to participate in preserving and improving the quality of our environment, for us and for future generations, will find worthwhile information here to help them decide if the Forum may be that opportunity. We also provide links to other like-minded local and national environmental organizations to broaden the viewer's choices.
