Healing Garden Created by Envrionmental Forum Graduates Pat Compton and Karen Halvorsen
|
|
Environmental Forum of Marin Members and Marin Master Gardeners Pat Compton and Karen Halvorsen (both class 31) have created a garden for Marin Brain Injury Network (MBIN) in Larkspur. Pat and Karen have developed this garden based on permaculture and sustainability principles and have attempted to make it reasonably accessible to the participants at MBIN. Karen also teaches a gardening class to the participants.
The entire garden has been sheet mulched and planted with a green manure crop. Quin Ellis, an instructor at College of Marin, has used the MBIN garden as a classroom for irrigation technology, leaving them with a first-class drip system. Fernando Agudelo-Silva, director of the Environmental Landscaping department at College of Marin, has been very generous contributing both materials and plants. They have welcomed donations of all types of plant materials including natives, sun-loving, butterfly-, bee- and bird-attracting as well as deer- and drought-resistant varieties.

Responding to requests by Barbara O'Grady, Annan Paterson and Marilyn McConnell, Novato City Council member Carole Dillon-Knutson offered a resolution endorsing the concept of Zero Waste. She strongly and eloquently urged her fellow council members to pass it.
Environmental Forum members Ed Mainland, Annan Paterson, Marilyn McConnell, and David McConnell spoke publicly for the issue, which the Novato City Council passed unanimously.
Thank you to those Forum members, to Carole Dillon-Knutson and to the Novato City Council.

Join Marin Organic at a Volunteer Task Force Event at Clark Summit Farm
|
|
Saturday, May 19th - at 12noon
The event will begin with a short tour at high noon
Clark Summit Farm, North side of Tomales, CA
The cost is FREE for everyone!
Come meet Liz Cunningham, Dan Bagley, their gracious pigs, cattle, and chickens, and really get to know their main crop, GRASS!
They need a number of volunteers to weed thistles, paint fences, and to help with general care and maintenance of the ranch.
In appreciation for your contribution to a local organic farm, you will be rewarded for your hard work and thistle wrestling. Lagunitas Brewing Company and Priscilla's Cafe have generously donated their specialties to make this a day of nourishment and victory! We will also be accompanied by the musical treats of Jeremiah Church, whose rhythms melt away work and time.
The day promises to be great fun. There isn't much that is more satisfying than finishing a day of work down on the farm. Liz, Dan, and their pastured animal friends would surely appreciate the help.
We would love to see you there!
