NEW CROP of STUDENTS Coming

Spread the word! An exciting new semester for EFM's class will begin Tuesday, September 12th. Classes run on Tuesdays from 8:30 - 3:30 pm. If someone you referred has not yet returned their application, contact Anne Faught, Admissions at (415) 479-7814. There are a few spaces still available. Applications are available online at our website via the link below. If the applicant is interested in university credit (6 units) ask for information on that via the telephone. Run by the efforts of over 100 volunteers and in its 34rd year,
EFM trains graduates to become members of a large network of environmental advocates who work to preserve and improve the quality of the environment for us and future generations.


Luncheon with Senator Boxer - Fri Aug 25 11:15am

EFM's graduate, Class of VIII, will be honored at a special Marin Conservation League luncheon and book signing on Friday, August 25th at the Embassy Suites, San Rafael. Register early via MCL's website link below. Senator Boxer will speak about her book, A Time To Run, the environment, and her view from the nation's Capitol.

Lighten Up & Laugh Sun. Aug 27, 2006 1-4pm at McInnis Park Picnic Area

Picnic and rally for the Campaign for Marin. Come see the play: The DaVinci Plan, a comedy about land use planning, in one act with music and original lyrics by some of Marin's best: Trip Allen, Mariah Baird, Greg Brockbank, Nona Dennis, Marge Macris, Barbara Salzman, Doug Wilson and Periann Wood. (Joint effort of the Sierra Club Marin Group and Bay Chapter, Marin Audubon Society, Marin Conservation League, Salmon Protection and Watershed Network, Tomales Bay Association, and Marin Baylands Advocates.) Paul Hawken Taste of Marin Sunday Sept 17th 4-9pm

Environmentalist and best-selling author, Paul Hawken will be speaking at Marin’s premier food event, Taste of Marin 2006. Held once again at the beautiful Saint Vincent’s School for Boys in San Rafael, the event will include opportunities to meet local farmers, taste a variety of home made specialties from Marin’s top restaurants and food purveyors.

FREE Environmental Film

Green Planet Films, has free screenings once a month in addition to their rental service for environmentally-related dvds. They will give a free showing of "the Power of Community" at Marin Outdoor Living in Greenbrae, Aug. 23rd. 6 - 9pm.

Sustainable San Rafael

Sustainable San Rafael, headed by Kiki La Porta(32) and Sue Spofford(32) has been working with San Rafael Planning Director, Bob Brown, in order to press for green building policy in SR to reduce GHG production. Brown conducted a Study Session in July for council members and Mayor Boro, who not only welcomed the information but further requested that Brown look into commercial and municipal building as well as single- and multi-family residential for a green building policy recommendation to the Planning Commission this fall.

With 1200 members, the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin has been protecting West Marin since 1971. Great Teaching Tool

A great teaching tool to convey in single snapshot is the 27” x 36” “Earth: A Graphic Look at the State of the World” poster that summarizes the conditions of the world’s ecology and humanity and their interaction. This poster includes over 10 charts, 15 maps, and text.
