SF Mayor's office announced May 3 that it is engaging in a
Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program for San
Francisco. This benefits local consumers and businesses and
the environment by allowing each electricity customer to
choose between purchasing City-generated electricity—
generated primarily through environmentally friendly sources
—or privately-generated electricity. CCA also allows the City
to expand energy efficiency and conservation programs for
local consumers. This process is a result of a Board of
Supervisors-approved ordinance in May 2004 establishing
support for a CCA program. Community Choice is the
only tool that allows local governments to help decide their
community's energy future and the most powerful tool for
managing energy risk and pollution. For more
information on what Marin can do to go towards CCA contact
Ed Mainland (29), Secretary of Sustainable Marin at
415-902-6365.
Run by the efforts of over 100 volunteers and in its 33rd year,
EFM trains graduates to become members of a large network of
environmental advocates who work to preserve and improve
the quality of the environment for us and future generations.
